Our investment approach

We are not better investors than any of our private equity peers, we just have a different agenda. Our ambition is to invest in companies where we see a long-term value potential, and we are not restricted by any mid-term exit requirements.

Investment criteria for strategic investments

The below investment criteria should be seen as a guidance of what we are looking for, not as an absolute requirement – we are always prepared to investigate good investment opportunities.

• Transaction value of USD 10 - 200 million
• Possibility to exercise active ownership and appoint 1-2 board representatives
• Strong management team which, to the largest extent, plan to remain with the company
• Sector preferences
  • Industrial, Logistics, Offshore, Renewables, Technology
  • Other sectors on a case-by-case basis
• Geographical preferences
  • Scandinavia, Northern Europe
  • Other regions on a case-by-case basis, but preferably with some connection to Northern Europe
• All development phases considered, but preferably:
  • International growth potential
  • Cash generative in the near future
  • Not dependent on the success of a single unproven innovation
  • Negative view on turn-around projects requiring significant involvement from the owner’s side
  • Positive view on family owned businesses facing succession
• Target company structure
  • “One share – one vote” principle
  • No management contracts or similar with related parties (of significant nature and/or not at arm’s-length terms)
• Target company’s operations and activities to be consistent with the JCE Group’s core values
• Expected return on investment at least equal to the risk free interest rate plus a sufficient risk premium depending on the company’s financial and operational risk profile
  • To be received through a mixture of dividends and value appreciation of the underlying assets
    
    

Investment proposals

The JCE Group is constantly receiving and evaluating a large number of investment proposals from entrepreneurs and others wishing either to sell their business to us or find a financial partner to help expand their business.

We would normally require a written description of the company or the investment opportunity, as the case may be, preferably in the form of a business plan or similar, to make a proper evaluation.
