Fredrik Järås, a highly skilled chef/entrepreneur from Alingsås, and JCE Group AB will build the business together.
JCE Group invests in the chilled food industry based on new regulations from the EU regarding health and safety in food management, where almost every municipality in Sweden is evaluating its current processes of serving food. This includes schools, hospitals, elder care, etc. that are looking at taking advantage of the cost benefit by industrial chilled food production facilities for its demand instead of making large investments on its own. The Swedish public food industry turns around 19 billion SEK a year!
Another key driver for the anticipated expansion is a switch in demand from frozen food to chilled ready-to-eat food. Sweden with the highest rate of single households in Europe with 47% living on their own has a proportionally very large market for portion packed ready-to-eat food. The established companies in this six billion SEK market have so far been slow to respond to the change in demand, and therefore JCE Group captures this opportunity. The retail market for chilled food is expected to grow from roughly 200MSEK, 2007 to approximately 300MSEK in 2008 and Totalmat’s aim is to capture 10% of this market by the end of 2009.
The business gets a great start since we have been able to acquire Arla Foods large production facility in Alingsås, easily converted into a state of the art production facility for chilled food. Another great advantage is the Alingsås location, next to Gothenburg and with two of Sweden’s major highways, E20 and E6, connecting Gothenburg, Stockholm, Oslo and Copenhagen just outside our production facility.
As a first sign of Totalmat’s competitive advantage, we have been awarded with a contract with COOP, Sweden’s leading chilled food retailer. The contract is in line with our business idea and has several components closely related to the school food requirements enabling great economies of scale.
JCE Group aims to support Fredrik Järås (who owns 9.9% of the shares) in this project to ensure reaching our targets to become a leading supplier in the chilled food sector.
